We had quite the year, and we're sure you did as well. There was a lot happening all the time through 2017 and it was easy to miss things. On this final business day of the year, we thought we'd round up some of our posts, videos, and activities in one place: these are our In Case You Missed Its for 2017.
In our Ladies Who Watch series, we explored The Handmaid's Tale and Big Little Lies. Additionally, Dr. Hinson offered up her favorite episodes of the year and what lessons they have to teach us and covered some themes in 13 Reasons Why.
We reviewed quite a few books this year, too! Be Fierce (Gretchen Carlson's treatise on sexual harassment), The One Device (the history of the iPhone), Janesville (a tale of a post-industrial American town), Playing Big (helping women realize their full potential), and Radium Girls (about the women who literally ate radium in the early 20th century to feed industrial growth) are some of our favorites.
Our weekly series 5 Friyays explored five things each week that the Drs thought everyone should know about, think about, or might just make them happy.
The Leadership Voices series also launched, and we heard from a variety of leaders in a variety of industries about how leadership works for them.
We also covered #metoo and anti-harassment cultures, tips for employee evaluations, communicating across generations, best practices for communicating during hiring, talking less and smiling more, 3D printing for business, and how March 17th is never called St. Patty's Day.
Dr. Donnelly explained what research is (a frequent question), translated some Baptist distinctions for non-Baptists in her role as Religious Liberty Fellow for the Baptist Joint Committee, explained why she talks so much about trampolines, and explained the difference between gratitude and thankfulness.
Dr. Hinson shared with us why she doesn't believe in 'resolutions' but instead uses 'intentions', and our yoga consultant, Joell Beagle, gave us some tips on breathing through the holidays.
We value confidentiality highly here at Abbey Research, so we rarely talk about our clients by name and it may seem like we're not working with anyone. Far from the truth! This year we had the privilege of working with companies in recreation, construction, manufacturing, and business services. We served non-profits in the education and international development sectors, and spent one-on-one time with dozens of university students, including our Fall 2017 intern (who we already miss!).
We spent the year 'out in the wild', as we like to say, spending time with chambers of commerce, academic conferences, leadership groups, and more. Our calendar is already filling up for 2018 and we could not be more thrilled. We're expanding our content into webinars and mini-courses, as well as getting-to-know-you meetings and project consults over Zoom.
So happy end of one year and start of a new, friends. We hope you've had a chance to breathe and reflect over the last few weeks and are ready to enter a new calendar page with renewed energy.
We'll be back on January 2 with a few announcements about intentions and a new blog series on goal setting.
In the meantime, if you need us, we'll be on Dr. Donnelly's couch with some of our Irish favorites, watching cheesy movies, and sipping gin.
By the way, if you want to make sure you don't miss anything next year, sign up for our monthly digest. We send out one email during the last week of the month, full of what we produced that month as well as announcements about upcoming trainings and sales. Don't miss it!
