5 Friyays – July 3

Hey all! It’s Dr. Erin back with my 5 Friyays for the first few days of July. We’re half way through the year, and it’s been a hard few weeks for the country as we continue to struggle to control the COVID-19 outbreak. But – we certainly have something to celebrate here at AR HQ! Our dear readers will know that the good Dr. Kristen and I are OBSESSED with Hamilton. Unless you’ve been living off the grid, you’ll know that a filmed version of the Broadway musical dropped on Disney+ this morning. Since we’re off for the 4th, you can be rest assured whenever you are reading this, we are watching Hamilton. Thus I have an all Hamilton Friyay – with some of my favorite videos to get us all in the mood! (Plus a bonus Friyay)

The Room Where It Started

Many people might not know that the idea of a Hamilton Musical goes way back to 2009. Show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda was invited to perform at the White House for President Obama and introduced what was at the time an idea for a hip hop album covering the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton. Thankfully, we have video of this historic performance. Take it away, Lin!

My Name is Alexander Hamilton

I would be remiss not to include the official trailer for the film, in case you’ve missed it (or want to watch it for the 100th time)! I literally cannot wait to see the original cast perform this masterpiece.

Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)

The lasting power of Hamilton is both in its history and in its contemporary relevance. With the Hamilton Mixtape, we saw artists explore these resonant themes. One of the most powerful political statements from the musical is the role of immigrants in founding, shaping, building, and continuing to grow our country.

The Zoom Where It Happened

We’ve already shared this video from John Krasinski’s Some Good News, but it’s worth sharing again for the pure joy on this wee girls face as she watches her dream come true.

Helpless (At Home Edition)

Longtime friend of Hamilton Jimmy Fallon helped organized this Zoom-tastic rendition for a charity TV program last week. The OBC kills it like they left the stage yesterday.

Bonus Friyay (HMT Edition)

I would be remiss not to include the recently released trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale’s Season 4. June apparently lives (we’re not surprised). Raise your hand if you’re excited to see Nick (Eyebrows) and Commander Lawrence join forces?? Though we’ll have to wait till 2021, rest assured The Good Doctors will return with their coverage of this new season when it drops!

That’s a wrap on my Hamilton Friyays! Enjoy the musical, enjoy the weekend, be safe and well!
