5 Friyays: October 12

Hey, all! It’s Dr. Hinson here, back with my 5 Friyays for this week. As always, it’s a bit scattered, with tidbits from both home and abroad! Lots to dive into, so let’s crack on!

5 Year Old Feminism

Feminism is the belief in the necessity of equal treatment of all genders and sexes. In this adorable video from a show in the UK, 5 year old Eva shows that girls can do anything boys can do, and often times, more. Makes me wonder how the world would work if we raised our children based on their similarities instead of differences.

The Joy of Conversation

One of my favorite programs recently returned for it’s 21st season, The Graham Norton Show. A staple of Friday night TV when I lived in Belfast, it airs on BBC America, only 1 week delayed from the British broadcast. I could hardly pick a favorite clip, but here’s a special Harry Potter themed highlight reel! Norton’s innate curiosity is a driving force behind his long running success (his humor helps as well).

The Honorary Dr. Clinton

Though I know she is a very divisive figure, on the left and right of politics, it was quite a delight to see her receive an honorary doctorate from my alma mater Queen’s University Belfast yesterday. Though there were some embellishments in her speech, her strongly worded tone that politicians in Northern Ireland (who have not held a government since last January) need to work for “peace not paralysis” was well received.

Another Royal Wedding

Though the big Royal affair of the year happened in May when HRH Prince Harry married Megan Markle, there is another royal wedding happening tomorrow with another of the Queen’s grandchildren. HRH Princess Eugenie is marrying Mr. Jack Brooksbank at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Find out all you might want to know (and then some) here. I won’t be getting up at 5AM to watch this live, but I’m sure the pomp and circumstance will be fully on show.

Ethereal and Enjoyable Music

Apparently, all of my favorite bands are producing new music this Fall and I could not be more excited about it. Another Spotify find, Gregory Alan Isakov released a new album this week called “Evening Machines.” Please enjoy my favorite song so far …
