5 Friyays: October 16

Happy Friday, folks! Here’s some stuff that’s been making me happy this week because I need joy and maybe you do, too.

BRIDGERTON. BRIDGERTON. BRIDGERTOOOOOOONNNNNN!

Live look at me and Dr. Erin yesterday when Netflix announced the official drop date for their Bridgerton series and some first look photos.

The show is based off a series of novels by Julia Quinn that follow eight siblings in their searches for love. It is hands down one of our favorite book series of all time and with the adaptation in the hands of Shonda Rhimes and her production team, Christmas cannot come fast enough.

Eulogizing 2020 with Funny Ladies

Variety has the news that Phoebe Robinson and Rachel Brosnahan are going to be closing out the year with a comedy special on Amazon that’ll cover – I hope – the true feelings of this year.

Tony & Aaron & Jake & Tom

The Tony Awards were announced yesterday and one of my long-time favorite actors got his first Tony nod for his role in Moulin Rouge – Aaron Tveit. You may know him as Danny Zucko from the Grease Live! on Fox a while ago, but he was also in Gossip Girl and Les Miserables and his solo album is one of my happiest musical places and…

Some of the other nominations are weird – which tracks with the whole season and the entire year, tbh – but I am thrilled about several. Not only Aaron, but Jake Gyllenhaal in Sea Wall/A Life along with his stage partner, Tom Sturridge. Tom Hiddleston picked up one for Betrayal (I can’t believe Charlie Cox didn’t) and Karen Olivio is so stunning in Moulin Rouge I may have stormed a castle if she hadn’t gotten one.

John Legend @ BBMAs

A little while ago (or maybe yesterday, time is no longer linear) Chrissy Teigen and John Legend lost their baby. The social media posts about it were raw and vulnerable and many of my friends who have lost babies were touched to see their pain validated in that way. A few nights ago, on the Billboard Music Awards, John took to the stage to perform a tribute to Chrissy that made most of us cry.

And Now… This.

If you’ve never seen the Literal Music Video for Total Eclipse of the Heart, you are in for a treat.

That’s it from me this week – please take care of yourselves. Wash your hands, stay home, breathe deep, and remember this too shall pass because that’s what the laws of time and space dictate, but I get we feel far from that.
