28 Sep 5 Friyays: September 28
Hey everyone – it’s Dr. Hinson here with my top 5 things of the week! It’s been a heavy week for a lot of people, myself included, but I’m writing live from AR HQ in Philly and I’ve wrangled a pretty good list for you! Let’s see what I’ve got!
Redefining Space Through Art
Frequent readers of my Friyays will know I often get items for my list from CBS Sunday Morning. A few weeks ago they did a wonderful piece about the recent graffiti art that’s been used to brighten up a construction site around Ground Zero. The transformative power of art.
The Banjo is Back
Mumford and Sons is one of my all-time favorites and they’ve just announced new music. Here’s the first performance of their first single off ‘Delta’, ‘Guiding Light.’ Cannot wait for the rest, lads!
National Parks Day
This past weekend I celebrated National Parks Day with friends, watching this film outdoors. In case you needed a reminder how awesome our Parks system is and how many wonderful places we have to visit in this great country of ours, here it is.
Borders and Boundaries
Many of you know that Dr. Donnelly and I lived in Northern Ireland. The country is facing a looming crisis over Brexit, and what to do with their border with the Republic of Ireland. Few pieces of art have captured the beauty and complexity of the Irish border like this film.
Sharing Food Builds Community
Staying across the pond for now, I was touched to see the Duchess of Sussex newest project helping women who lost their home in the Grenfell Tower fire last year. The women who lived in the tower found a local kitchen to cook for their families, and what they built was a cross-cultural community, sharing recipes and stories and life. Dr. Donnelly has already ordered the cookbook, and you all should do.
That’s my Friyays for the week! Enjoy the first changes of Fall for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere and have a great weekend all!
