Claudette Colvin
Born: September 5, 1939
Montgomery, Alabama, USA
Known For: Civil Rights Activist
Our birthday blog today celebrates the life and legacy of Claudette Colvin. You might not know who she is, but Claudette was the first black woman to refuse to give up her seat on a bus – leading to a series of bus boycotts and the more famous bus protest of Rosa Parks. In keeping with our use of alternative resources for our blogs, we’ve decided to share the Drunk History version! It gives you the gist of how the bus boycott got started along with a few laughs and swear words.
Happy birthday, Claudette! You can learn more about her here.
