Happy Birthday Blog – Zora Neale Hurston

Continuing our coverage of badass women throughout history, we have our first blog of 2020. Today, we’re celebrating the birthday of American anthropologist, folklorist, and writer Zora Neale Hurston. Born in Notasulga, Alabama on January 7, 1891, Hurston went on to become a leading figure in the Harlem Renaissance. She wrote about the Black experience in America and her experiences as a woman of color. Her most famous book is Their Eyes Were Watching God published in 1937. I found this fascinating video from the Kansas City Public Library featuring an imagined conversation with Zora if you fancy learning more.
